img A significant portion of oral microbes are either difficult to cultivate and identify or not yet cultivated. In addition, phenotypic identification of many oral anaerobes is cumbersome, time consuming and difficult to interpret. Hence culture independent molecular techniques play a very important role in identification and quantification of many oral microbes.

CRL offers infrastructure and expertise in a range of molecular methods. These include :

  • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Conventional PCR, Multiplex PCR, Real time PCR, Reverse transcriptase formats of PCR.

  • Fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH).

  • Loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP).

  • Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE).

We perform gene polymorphism studies, SNP techniques, Bacterial serotyping, sex determination through these above mentioned molecular techniques. The laboratory also performs telomere length polymorphism, DNA fragmentation studies, gene expression studies and detection of virulent genes etc.
